A shell and tube heat exchanger transfers heat between two fluids that never mix: one flows through a bundle of tubes, the other around them inside a pressure-retaining shell. Baffles direct the shell-side fluid across the bundle to drive turbulence and heat transfer, while tube count, diameter, length and pass arrangement set the surface area and pressure drop. It remains the most adaptable configuration in industrial service — it takes high pressures and high temperatures, tolerates fouling, and can be opened and cleaned.

Because every process is different, standardization only goes so far. Perry Products designs each unit for the customer’s specific conditions on a job-by-job basis, whether that is a 4″ diameter exchanger three feet long or a 100″ diameter exchanger forty feet long.

Thermal designs are developed and rated in HTRI software and backed by a thermal, hydraulic and vibration guarantee. Mechanical designs are optimized in Compress, PVElite, FEPipe and RCS, then modeled in SolidWorks before a single plate is cut. Everything is fabricated, tested and code stamped in one 40,000 square foot facility in Hainesport, New Jersey — ASME U, R and NB registered, with quotes back in 24 hours and rapid production builds in as little as four to six weeks.
